Tampa is a city built around water. The Hillsborough River runs through the middle of it and empties into Hillsborough Bay, which opens into Tampa Bay itself, and almost everything worth seeing here sits on one of those three. That is the short version of why a boat shows you more of this city in an afternoon than a car does in a week.
This page is the overview. Wherever in Tampa you are staying, our private charters run from public docks in and around Downtown, so the neighborhood you are coming from mostly affects your drive to the dock rather than the day itself.
Which Part of Tampa Are You Coming From?
Each of these has its own page with the local detail, parking notes and the stops that suit it best:
- Downtown Tampa for the Riverwalk, the hotels and the shortest walk to a dock
- Channelside & Water Street for the aquarium, the arena and the cruise terminals
- Harbour Island, the closest residential neighborhood to our usual pickup points
- Davis Islands, home of the boat ramp we depart from most often
- South Tampa for Hyde Park, Palma Ceia and Bayshore Boulevard
- University of Tampa and the stretch of river beside it
What You Actually See From the Water
A typical Tampa route runs past the University of Tampa minarets, the Downtown skyline, and the waterfront homes along Davis Islands and Bayshore, then out into open bay. Dolphins turn up often enough that nobody on board is surprised by them, though we never promise them.
From there the day is yours. Anchor at Beer Can Island or a quieter sandbar, dock and eat at Armature Works or along the Riverwalk, or stay out in the bay and swim. The destinations page covers everywhere we can reach.
Where You Meet the Boat
Most Tampa charters leave from the Davis Island Boat Ramp or the public docks at Armature Works, both a short drive from anywhere in the city. We can pick up from other public docks around Tampa if one suits your group better, and our pickup locations page has the parking detail worth reading before the day.
